Every business owner has their own story for how they came to where they are today. It probably all started with a dream. That appeal of "being your own boss" and calling all the shots does have a ring to it. But very few know what it is like to own a company before they are hardly old enough to drink. Meet Makayla Thom, the 21-year-old owner of Heritage Blossom's. In the past year she's bought her own company, taken a trip to Italy, jumped into the learning curve of running a shop, oh, and of course, become a member of BizX. 

School is back in session. The pressure for vacations and trips is off, and you can rest easy knowing that for now, all you have to plan is day-to-day life. Flights, hotels or visits to foreign countries will be put off for a bit.

You have a great team. Employees show up to work on time, deadlines are met and customers and vendors are happy. Then, the unthinkable happens – your best employee gives their notice. How could this happen!?

Unfortunately, it’s more common than you think. CareerBuilder found that while 59 percent of workers are generally satisfied at work, one in five said they plan to change jobs this year or next. One in five is a staggering figure, but what’s worse is that just 10 percent of employees surveyed said there was someone internally who could step in to fill their role if they abruptly left their employer, according to a study from the staffing firm Robert Half Management Resources.

The importance of a succession plan is a discussion for a different day, but the hope is that your best employees won’t leave your company. To help make sure that happens as little as possible, read on for the top four reasons employees choose to move on.

"In my mind if you do not use a service such as Uber, you need serious help."

That quote comes from a Florida-based businessman according to a recent USA Today article, and although his claim might be a little extreme, he’s not alone. The article goes on to cite research from Certify, which helps companies manage expense reports, who found that on-demand ride service Uber has overtaken taxis as the preferred way to get around among road warriors on business.

Use of the sharing economy among travelers is soaring, as Travel Weekly shared that just last year a survey found that 63 percent of respondents had never heard of collaborative or sharing-economy services and now in 2015 that number has flipped and 60 percent are aware of these services.
