You read that right. Coffee. Is. A. Superfood! You can finally indulge in this caffeinated goodness with a clear conscious.

Read the recap below or go to the full article here!

Coffee actually REDUCES the risk of type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s and heart disease. It also increases your short-term focus, endurance, and increases your life span!

You can thank researchers at the University of Nottingham for conducting this incredible study into how coffee reacts with and affects body fat.

To break it down a bit more, your body has two types of fat. White adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT).

Essentially, WAT is what makes you look fat. It stores energy so you can survive without food for long periods of time.

BAT on the other hand, is what keeps you healthy by controlling your body’s chemistry. BAT helps burn WAT more efficiently, helps your body handle blood sugar, improves bone density and health, increases longevity and helps your body build lead muscle mass.

WAT is good if there’s a famine, BAT is good for everything else. The downside here is that adults don’t have much BAT and it only works when it's activated. And the only way to activate your BAT is through regular exercise and periodic exposure to cold temperatures. But now, thanks to this earth-shattering study, drinking coffee has been added to the BAT activation list.

For the sciency-folks out there –

“Caffeine consumption has been associated with loss of body weight and increased energy expenditure ... Drinking coffee (but not water) stimulated the temperature of the supraclavicular region, which co-locates to the main region of BAT in adult humans, and is indicative of thermogenesis. These results demonstrate that caffeine can promote BAT function at thermoneutrality and may have the potential to be used therapeutically in adult humans.”

TLDR: coffee helps you burn fat!

It’s important to note that we’re talking about black coffee. When you add the creamer, syrups, sugar and flavorings, you’re definitely canceling out any benefits you might have gained from those glorious brown beans.

Now go and grab a cup of coffee and drink to your health! Cheers!
