According to experts it takes just 3 seconds for someone to decide if they like you or want to do business with you. That means you want to get it right, as you never know which connection could be incredibly important to your future.

Dr. Phil (yes that one) recently talked to Business Insider about how to make a great first impression, and it comes down to 2 things.

"The two most important things you can do are make eye contact, and take a moment," according to Dr. Phil. That means looking at people, where a lot of us tend to look through people or past people. 

The second part of that is to take a moment "and regard them as a human being." This will show that you are present, engaged, warm, and personable. That will build a connection and make the person feel important.
