Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County has built, repaired or renovated 350 homes for families in need of affordable housing, in 17 different King County communities since 1986. That number keeps growing as the developer is currently managing four additional projects, two in Seattle, one in Renton, and one in Federal Way.
One of those sites, Rainier Vista in Seattle, is making the transition from build site to neighborhood. After six years of hard work from over 3,000 volunteers, it is finally becoming a reality. 16 out of 23 houses are now finished, changing the lives of over 100 people that now call them home.
To revitalize this neighborhood and so many others like it, Habitat for Humanity works with the city to redevelop these areas into mixed-use, mixed-income zones with low to moderate income rentals mixed in with new homes.
It is a truly amazing accomplishment thanks to the hard work of so many dedicated people, with 80 percent of the labor provided by volunteers working under the guidance of Habitat Seattle staff and AmeriCorps members.
If there was ever a reason to let your hair down and celebrate, this would most certainly be it. Realizing such, Habitat hosted a party on Wednesday, at the Rainier Vista neighborhood.
It was a successful event with more than 100 people in attendance to celebrate. There was food, fun and guided tours of a recently completed house. Those in attendance also got to hear from local residents who had recently moved into the newly built Habitat houses.
BizX was pleased to be able to sponsor the block party, and Habitat was able to use the BizX dollars to get Dante’s Inferno Dogs to cater the event. Since partnering with BizX, Habitat has raised a considerable amount of BizX dollars, enabling them to purchase signage and safety equipment, rent furnishings for events, and hire caterers for events. And that’s just in the last 6 months.
With BizX on speed dial, it will be fascinating to watch what Habitat for Humanity is able to accomplish in the future.
