"When you cover the cost of things like printed invites and catering, you have higher yield on the sales event."
Ben Shapiro, VP of Sales for the Warriors, had experience trading with ticket holders
from time to time, and understood the benefits of bartering for goods and services
instead of using cash. For Shapiro, BizXchange not only made sense, it made it easier
for the Warriors to get the things they need. "Having a broker makes trading easier,"
says Shapiro. "When I am looking to save, I look to Rob Carson (Warriors BizX Account
Executive) for ideas on how to do it."
Although Shapiro is the primary liaison between BizXchange and the Warriors, he has
been able to integrate trade into many of the team's various departments. Shapiro
says that before spending cash, "we shop and see what BizXchange can bring to the
table." By contacting their Account Executive before making a purchase, they have
been able to save on tents, awnings, storage, catering and more.
And this generates a better-than-normal return on their investment. "When you
cover the cost of things like printed invites and catering, you have a higher yield on
the sales event," explains Shapiro.
The results of using barter in their business have been measurable for the Warriors. "I
keep a tally to see how much money we are able to save," says Shapiro. "It makes us
look good to the NBA league office." As a result of the Warriors success with trading,
the NBA has been looking into how other teams could use barter to save money.
The Warriors plans for the future include using BizXchange to sell more tickets, game
plans and fill empty luxury suites. "I give my Account Executive inventory to choose
from, and he lets me know who wants it," says Shapiro. In turn, they plan on using
their trade to start covering some hard costs. Currently, they are looking into the
possibility of using BizX to pay for building maintenance.
