“We feel that we can deal with BizX on a handshake.”
When David Lipman, owner of Connected Northwest, needed to supplement his cash income, he turned to barter. Since joining BizXchange in August 2003, Connected Northwest has saved hundreds of thousands of dollars by buying products and services through BizX. “It has brought us a pretty good amount of business,” said Lipman.
Connected Northwest has used BizXchange to improve its business and the lives of its employees in a variety of different ways. By filling his excess downtime with new business brought by BizX, Lipman has purchased vacations, including a weeklong Hawaiian getaway, restaurant meals and even pays his office lease entirely with BizX. Connected Northwest also eliminated its cash expense for employee hotel rooms by leasing a corporate apartment in downtown Seattle. “We used it when we had our people come to Seattle.”
Another area Connected Northwest has utilized BizX in is employee incentives. He offers employees some bonuses in BizX and an incentive program to trade unused sick leave for BizX. “Last pay period my employees came and asked if they could take some of their raise in BizX, so they obviously got a much bigger raise,” explains Lipman.
Lipman notes, “We feel that we can deal with BizX on a handshake, and they always follow through with what they say they will do. We don’t have to worry like we do with other trade organizations. It’s been a big part of my business.”
